GET TO KNOW LIZ

Tell us about your job position and some of your typical work tasks.

In my role with the Programs and Community Impact Manager, I get to spend time working directly with nonprofits, community partners and people who are trying to make Georgetown County better. A typical day might include helping coordinate a community initiative, connecting organizations with resources, planning an event or figuring out how to turn a good idea into something that can actually happen. A lot of my job is connecting people, solving problems and helping our partners move their work forward.

Favorite food: A really good Cheeseburger (with just about anything MINUS bacon)

Favorite drink: Water – I always have COLD water with me.

How do you give back to the community?

One of the ways I try to give back is by being available to share ideas and perspectives with others in the nonprofit community. After working in the sector in Georgetown County for more than three years, I’ve learned a lot from colleagues and community partners, and I’m always happy to pay that forward. None of us have all the answers, but having someone to talk through challenges and opportunities with can often help move ideas forward. Ultimately, we all share the same goal of helping make Georgetown County a stronger community for everyone.

What’s your favorite thing about Georgetown County?

The vibes! I live and worked in Horry County for nearly nine years. It wasn’t until I started working in Georgetown County that I felt like I was truly part of a community – one that looks out for neighbors, works to understand what’s happening, and meets people where they are. I love learning about the culture and all of the connections because it seems like everyone knows everyone.

Best advice you ever received?

“Don’t prove them wrong. Make them explain why they were.”

Favorite book?

Pout Pout Fish – I love doing funny voices with my two young boys when I read with them.

Tell us something you wish people knew about you.

I am passionate, very passionate – about my family, my friends (who are my family), my work, the BUFFALO BILLS!
